If you’re self employed or a small business owner, how transparent are you about your finances? People IRL sometimes ask me “how’s business going?” and I never know how to answer it because… it depends. And sometimes it changes from week to week. But nobody really wants a annual statement. 😉
I like the typical prairie understated response - not too bad!
“Here’s my business investment profile. We’re in growth mode so we aren’t paying out dividends but if you make regular investments in the business there are some benefits.”
“… This is just a link to your Patreon page…”
@ichris.bsky.social Early on in my business I was tempted to get family or friends to support me via Patreon just so that there’d be a bit of social proof. 😆
Maybe just give a canned response like, “It’s paying the bills!” Or “The business is doing great, but I hate my boss!”
No, yeah, good
@ichris.bsky.social 😆 that’s it usually
“No.. yeah… pretty good… yeah… no…”
@ichris.bsky.social That’s usually what I do. “My boss isn’t giving me any vacation days this xmas harharhahr”
In Sweden, there’s really no choice. The annual financial report for private companies is public information, as is people’s taxable income. So I rarely get the question—I guess curious folks just look it up themselves. 😅
