Podcasting
The Vinyl Cafe lives on in another generation thanks to my youngest’s teacher. 😊
Riverside, a tool I and many other podcasters use to record remote conversations, just raised another $30 million dollars but what stood out to me was this quote at the end:
“The company is not currently profitable but aims to achieve that goal by the end of 2026.”
Maybe you’ve heard of “software as a service” or SAAS businesses. While editing a client’s podcast I heard the term “cybercrime as a service” business. Because of course there is. And I’m sure CAAS is a booming industry to get into.
It’s wild talking to my dad about how he got clients for financial services over his career vs how I get clients for my podcast editing business. “I met this guy from BC, Justin Jackson, because he listened to a podcast I did 10 years ago… he recommended me to a fitness guru in Utah.”
Shameless affiliate link for the only podcast hosting platform that I genuinely enjoy using and am delighted when a client is already on it: Transistor has a pretty sweet Black Friday deal running right now if you’ve been thinking about setting up a show. AMA!
Speaking of not writing regularly - I’m updating my personal newsletter description now that Elon has helped ween me off Twitter. I’ve got a month to get another issue out or I’ll be breaking my promise of “at minimum once per year”. 😆
Apple’s most popular podcasts of 2024 in the U.S. feels like a pretty good sampling of what I assumed Americans listen to, leaning towards true crime, conspiracy / politics / news, and celebrities having conversations. Any of your favs make the list?
Further proof of Bluesky being included in the conversation: Transistor.fm allows you to pull a person’s profile from Bluesky now. Super handy feature I use all the time on some podcasts I work on.
At least Neville’s putting all my podcasting gear to good use while I try to figure out if / what I should do for a podcast. 😆😴
