Nice!

My podcast completion rate from Pocket Casts was 69% in 2024

Shameless affiliate link for the only podcast hosting platform that I genuinely enjoy using and am delighted when a client is already on it: Transistor has a pretty sweet Black Friday deal running right now if you’ve been thinking about setting up a show. AMA!

Speaking of not writing regularly - I’m updating my personal newsletter description now that Elon has helped ween me off Twitter. I’ve got a month to get another issue out or I’ll be breaking my promise of “at minimum once per year”. 😆

Apple’s most popular podcasts of 2024 in the U.S. feels like a pretty good sampling of what I assumed Americans listen to, leaning towards true crime, conspiracy / politics / news, and celebrities having conversations. Any of your favs make the list?

Further proof of Bluesky being included in the conversation: Transistor.fm allows you to pull a person’s profile from Bluesky now. Super handy feature I use all the time on some podcasts I work on.

At least Neville’s putting all my podcasting gear to good use while I try to figure out if / what I should do for a podcast. 😆😴

Inspired by a recent convo in the ShopTalk Show Discord, should you bleep / edit swears in your podcast? (TLDR: IMHO it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re consistent with what your listeners expect of your show.)

2024 seems to be the year some tech companies are “taking their podcast production in house”. It feels like the ying / yang of how these things go, just sucks to be on the yang of it. Or is it the ying?

(p.s. give your contractors a heads up so they can plan accordingly.)

It’s the time of year when the sound of the birds flying overhead on their journey south can be loud enough that I hear them with my headphones on while editing a podcast. #WinterIsComing

RIP iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle. I think parents would love an iPad nano style device with a basic GPS tracking feature built in so kids could listen to music or podcasts, and do some sort of of basic messaging.
