Any podcast nerds know if a USB-C enabled iOS device (iPad? iPhone 15?) can just take a USB-C mic plugged in directly as a recording device? Because that would make your phone a pretty slick mobile recorder paired with something like a Shure MV7.

I don’t know what they are because I only hear the words “web components” on podcasts I edit, but the newly launched Luro “…is a no-code solution to track component usage, adoption, and success across your entire product.”

Plus it looks great. šŸ’Æ

Really looking forward to the future Strike Force Five podcast episode where they talk about toxic work environments and how to deal with claims of abuse when you’re the boss.

Or maybe they’ll just change the name to Strike Force Four to avoid talking about anything serious.

I should know by now not to grab a bowl of chips to snack on while editing my client’s podcast who’s a fitness and wellness educator / coach. Not that she’d shame me for snacking. I just always seem to be pouring the crumbs down my throat as she says something about “…the snacks add up.” šŸ˜†

I love when a podcast client says in their recording to me, as if I’m in the booth with them, “Oh shoot Chris… what did I just say? Oh make it sound normal, ok?” šŸ˜†

Editors love editing challenges. šŸ’Ŗ

Happy Labour Day to all those who celebrate in whatever way you need to celebrate. I’m slightly labouring today so that hopefully I can labour less later in the week. Currently editing all the podcasts with Fred from Astro on them. šŸŽ‰

Selfie of me with headphones on and disheveled unkempt hair and a tired face.

Hey me back in 2009 following Adam Lisagor for the first time because of the cool Birdhouse app’s introduction video: In late 2023 you’ll finally get the chance to edit Mr. Lisagor, albeit on another client’s podcast.

Same same but different.

šŸ† Achievement unlocked.

I can’t read the full article, but Bloomberg has leaked that Descript is buying Squadcast. Descript is a transcription / screencast / editing app, Squadcast is for recording and live streaming podcast conversations. Interesting acquisition.

I feel like this example Chris Coyier blogged about trying to find a moment in a podcast he’d listened to could be the more interesting angle for AI / transcription tools to go after: podcast power users who want to find stuff in things they’ve listened to.

Please reset the “A web developer mentions the edge technology and so Chris feels obligated to throw in a U2 audio clip reference as a joke only 5 people who listen to the podcast will get” clock. (Ref: ShopTalk Show #575 next week.)

Experimenting with Auphonic again after being away for many years. Any podcast editors out there using it in their daily production?

Podcasters might be trying to use AI to get rid of me, the podcast editor, but I’m secretly using AI to get rid of podcasters with my library of audio of their voices. Pretty soon I’ll be able to publish better episodes without the need to spend time recording silly humans. šŸ˜‚

Editing a client’s podcast and the guest starts off by saying “…and so I moved here from Dublin, Ireland” - and I know I’m going to enjoy listening to them no matter what the topic is.

Stupid walk for stupid mental health time. This time I’m listening to The Daily for updates on Ukraine. What podcasts are you listening to this week?

Do you have a podcast dream?

If you could just hit record, talk with whoever you’d like about whatever you’d like, and know all the editing and publishing was going to be taken care of and you could just show up and do it - what kind of podcast would you want to do?

Having done an afternoon of yard work, I’m definitely built for editing podcasts. šŸ˜‚ 😪 🄵

The best time to start a journal, blog, or podcast documenting toxic leadership is before it starts. The second best time is right now.

Don’t ignore that little voice in your head that says “hmm… might be interesting to have some of this documented”, even if you’re not sure.

Is there an AI tool of some sort that would allow you to upload audio of a podcast and have it spit out the amount of time each voice talks over the episode?

Another reminder that Spotify podcasting was reckless with money. I feel bad for the good podcast folks who got hired and then fired because of deals like this. Woof.
