It seems fitting that on a client’s podcast episode called “Learning from Our Mistakes”, I would make a mistake while exporting and have to re-do it. 😂
A couple times we’ve had a person in their 20s-ish come to our door saying “I’m not here to sell you anything or whatever, just wondering if you have a bottle of water because it’s hot out.” And my scam sniffer radar goes off big time - am I a jerk or is this a sales thing?
Finished reading: Fight Night by Miriam Toews 📚 I had a tough time staying interested in it, but the ending was a beautiful payoff to the story.
Would you rather have your kids mindlessly flipping through YouTube / Reels / Tiktoks, or playing Monopoly non-stop?
It’s don’t buy an iPhone season right now. Remind your friends and family to hold off until the next stuff is announced, and the previously new stuff will be discounted. (Though amazing deals occasionally pop up.)
Is there anything more pleasing to the ears than a gas powered lawn trimmer? I’m just glad I’m not recording anything today. 🙉
I really hope this rumor of Apple throwing ads into Apple Maps stays a rumor. It feels gross that they’d do it for the cash, but it might be something they have to do in exchange for access to mapping or business API data? I dunno.
Another upvote for this 20 Thousand Hertz episode on the sound design of Ted Lasso during the pandemic. So good for fans of the show and/or sound nerds.
Currently trying to balance the right amount of “yeah”, “right”, “sure” from the co-host while the other person is talking on a two person podcast episode. It can help to have a “yeah” almost as a comma to give the listener a pause, but it can be distracting if there’s too many.
Any small business owners out there have advice for hiring an employee vs sub-contractor, and especially as it relates to a Canadian solo business hiring an American?
Thanks to the way one of my clients publishes their episodes, I know that this represents my birthday. 1660910400400 (No, it’s not today.)
Speaking of ghouls, not a good look Apple.
Everything's Gonna Be Alright
From today’s issue of Craig Mod’s Seven days of walking Tokyo popup newsletter, a message to the younger version of himself when he first arrived in Tokyo:
I don’t know how I’d convey this, but I’d want that kid to know: He didn’t have to black himself out all the time, that things would get better. That the hole in which he felt so stuck wasn’t as deep as it seemed, and that good people would come into his orbit given time and effort. That he was directionally correct — the impulse to eschew an office job for independent work — but that that road was long and lonely and it would take ages to start paying dividends.
This melds nicely with the emotion of constant ringing in my ears of the Black Panther 2 trailer’s mix of Tems cover of Bob Marley’s “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” into Kendrick Lamar’s Alright.
Old white men continue to run roughshod over everything to attempt to stay relevant and in control. But I hold on to the hope that the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.
