I unlocked something in my brain today about how I could use @Microblog to post and publish my blog at, ditching the Eleventy / Netlify combo which is too complex for a woeful nerd like me. Just need to sort out how to import all my blog posts in? π€
HandMirror for macOS is one of those apps I would totally use a lot, if I could just remember to actually use it when I need it.
(It’s a menubar app that pops up a quick view of your camera so you can check your hair before a Zoom or Riverside call.)
M1 Mac vs M2 Mac
I don’t understand why I’d buy an M1 based Mac Studio when the M2 based MacBook Pro and MacBook Air are out right now - so clearly there’s going to be an M2 based Mac Studio coming.
The obvious deciding factor would be “Do you need a faster Mac right now or can you afford to wait?”
This post on MacRumors.com helps sort out the differences between the two chips - but everything I read there tells me I should wait before taking an M-based plunge with my main work machine - I currently have a 2019 16" MacBook Pro.
This paragraph jumped out at me as a reason to wait for the M2 based Mac Studio:
Both the βM1β and the βM2β have dedicated video encode and decode engines for hardware-accelerated H.264 and HEVC, but the βM2β’s video engines are also able to accelerate ProRes and ProRes RAW to enable playback of multiple streams of 4K and 8K video. In addition, the βM2β’s media engine includes a higher-bandwidth video decoder, supporting 8K H.264 and HEVC video.
I don’t do a lot of 4K video right now for clients, but when I do - rendering is the biggest bottleneck to creativity and getting my work done efficiently.
I recently heard someone talk about how fast their M1 Max MacBook Pro is at rendering video on a client’s podcast and that’s what’s got me feeling the itch to upgrade.
It’s a bit of a chicken and the egg for me right now. If I upgrade to a Mac Studio, I’ll get more work done which will allow me to make more money and then be able to more easily afford upgrading to a Mac Studio. π
Some days while running my own business I wish I had a manager to tell me what to do next. Especially when I have a head cold that makes everything feel foggy.
Can I hire someone to come tell me what to do? But still be the owner somehow? π
Couldn’t sleep at 4am this morning so decided to watch the first 4 episodes of Barry. I’m a sucker for dark humor at the best times - even more so when parts of life are a stress ball.
Some days I feel like I need a smoke break after getting my family out the door to school / work in the morning.
“I don’t have a lunch!” “I forgot to put my clothes in the dryer!” “Where are my glasses?” “If I’m late again my teacher is going to call you!” πͺπ
If I buy an M1 Mac, does Final Cut Pro support adding chapter markers without stopping the playback like Logic Pro can? Because itβd be nice to be able to drop a marker as someone asks a question, but then be able to hear the question?
